Package and practice of Chickpea in Madhya Pradesh
Selection of soil and preparation of field
For cultivation of these varieties soil should be sandy loam to loamy soil.
Facility of well drainage system is required at field.
For preparation of field 3-4 times deep ploughing is required.
Agronomical Practices
Seed treatment:
- For prevention of wilt and root rot disease, seed should be treated with 2.5 g Thiram or mixture of 1g Bavisteen / 2g Thiram and 1g Bavisteen.
- Seed should be treated with recommended Rhizobium and Phosphate Solublising Bacteria culture before sowing.
- For prevention of termite, seed should be treated with 20 EC Chloropyriphos.
Sowing: The best time of sowing is 1st week of October. Plant to plant distance should be 5-10 cm and row to row distance 30-40 cm.

Irrigation
There is no requirement of irrigation for cultivation of chickpea but in case of drought one irrigation is required at the time of pod forming and for irrigated condition 2nd at the time of grain filling.

It should not be early or late but at the time of leaf shedding or yellow / light brown colour of leaves.
