From the Vice Chancellor s Desk .

Livestock sector is critical for economy. This sector alone contributes nearly 25.6% of total value of output in Agriculture, Fishing & Forestry sector. The overall contribution of livestock sector in total GDP is nearly 4.11% during 2012-13. The progress in this sector is attributed not only by the fact of increasing production of milk, egg, meat and wool but also overall development of livestock by its diseases control, progeny development and related infrastructure etc. The total population of livestock in the country is 512.05 million of which, Madhya Pradesh has 36.33 million and that of poultry is 729.05 million of which, Madhya Pradesh has 11.90 million. Of the total population of different livestock and poultry in the country, Madhya Pradesh has a share of 10.27% cattle, 7.53% buffaloes, 5.93% goats and 1.63% poultry (19th Livestock Census (2012), Deptt. of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Govt. of India, New Delhi). This poses a challenge for adequate human resource to safeguard this enormous livestock and poultry wealth.

At the same time, the veterinarian’s role has become more complex with new ethical challenges posed by issues such as growing public awareness regarding animal welfare, increasing economic value of companion animals, growth of veterinary specialization, experimentation with alternative and complementary medicine, and concern for pain management and mental well-being of animals..

Websites are an essential way of receiving as well as providing information and interacting with other people. In today's highly developed academic scenario, universities have recognized the importance of websites to be able to benefit from appropriate academic communications. University website is also one of the primary resources for the prospective students when they seek information about academic programs and universities in the decision making process for attending college.

I hope that the web site of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur will cater to the needs of all concerned.
